Starting at MIT CSAIL

I am starting a new position as a Postdoctoral Associate at MIT CSAIL!

Shipping out to Boston

When I wrote about my thesis defense, I hinted that the next step of my academic journey would take me a bit farther away from Italy, across the pond. I can finally share that I joined the Data Systems Group at MIT CSAIL, where I’ll be collaborating with Mike Cafarella.

I expect the move from Berlin to Cambridge to be quite a change, with a new university, a new city, and a new academic community to get to know. At the same time, it only felt natural to look for new challenges. Let’s see if the cold winters of Berlin were adequate preparation for the New England weather!

What I will be working on

My intentions for my postoc are to expand on the questions that motivated my PhD: how can we make complex and messy data easier to access, understand, and use? With LLMs and AI becoming more and more pervasive, I am interested to see how further we can push the bounderies of what can be automated in building data pipelines. I want to keep staying at the intersection of data systems and machine learning. I am particularly interested in semantic and multimodal data integration, and in systems to assist users working with different LLM models and data transformations.

There is a lot for me to learn, which is exactly what makes this new chapter exciting. I am very happy to be here, and I am looking forward to working with the group on cool projects :) For now, I set up a brief MIT CSAIL profile.
